*The PG 3 year provides supervised experience in the recognition and management of the major critical clinical entities, which present to an Emergency Department and promotes an even higher level of competence and confidence in non-critical patient management. Training also continues in other pertinent medical specialties.

PGY2

The first month of the second year includes an intensive training for the group. They receive lectures on common topics in Emergency Medicine. During this time they receive base station training, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS.

PGY3

The PG 3 year in Emergency Medicine is equally divided between the Emergency Department and off-service rotations. Off-service rotations are one month each in duration and include a month in the Medical Intensive Care Unit, and another month in Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center and a senior rotation in Community Emergency Medicine at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena.

PGY4

The PG 4 year in Emergency Medicine is designed to raise teh knowledge and skills developed in the first three years of postgraduate training to a consultant's level in the specialty. Residents spend a significant amount of their time in a leadership role with an emphasis on the supervision and teaching of junior residents and medical students in the department.
